Task 1D: 2d Image

So the final task of part 1 is here, and it is one that I must admit I struggled with! 


We were asked to create a profile on either Flickr or Instagram to share images of ourselves to go towards our portfolio.
Now I already have a personal Instagram account, of which I must admit I rarely update! I'm terrible as I always forget to take photos and the ones I do I never seem to get round to uploading! 
Therefore, I thought I would use a Flickr account for my professional profile. I also wanted to learn how Flickr works as I had never used it before, you know, delve into the unknown... 

I found Flickr quite easy to use, all you need to do is upload your images and publish them... If you have images! I'll be honest, I haven't had many professional photos taken of me for quite some time now, so I had to hunt down and find some images to put on my profile, and as I don't usually have many photo's taken of me it took me some time to get some photos together! Which then had me thinking, I should really have some more done soon, and I have booked a shoot with a friend who is a professional photographer and I will share that experience with you soon! 
But for now I eventually found a few and have put them on my profile, which you can see here:


It is still very much a working progress so any comments/advice would definitely be appreciated! 

While doing my Flickr page, I wondered what the real difference was between Instagram and Flickr. I had a little research and found a lot of people are either a 'Flickr' person or an 'Instagram' person. People prefer different ones for different reasons. I found some reasons for either side of the argument...

Flickr users say:
  • The resolution is better.
  • The range of photo shapes and sizes.
  • You can organise your photos and videos. 
  • Safe Searching - more safety for their users (family friendly).
However Instagram users say:
  • It's better for connecting with friends/businesses.
  • Using hashtags (this enables you to link it with other social networking sites).
  • It's a better platform for visual advertising.
  • The ability to edit your photos.
Well I can now say that I do have the best of both worlds. After looking at the advantages of both I do believe I have chosen the right sites for the right purposes.

    thanks Georgie lots of photos - various performance situations - I wonder which are your favourites? Like the comparison of the photography online sites. How are the other aspects of communication and reflection from Part 2 of Module 1 - any of the ideas making sense?

First Week Back!

Hi all,  So summer is officially over, and I think the weather is definitely reminding us of that!  During the summer I had a lot of free time, so I was researching and planning for the year ahead, as well as going along to so many interviews for new job opportunities to help develop my career.  As this was the first week back at university it was time to put my plans to practice. Task 3c: Sources Of Information

The next task is focused on where we get our information from. As I have been looking through others blogs I have noticed that everyone uses a variety of sources to find the information they need. In this blog I will be telling you my sources of information and how helpful I find them to help me progress in my career.  When I first looked up sources of information I found that most can be put into 3 categories: Primary Information Secondary Information Tertiary Information These are quite self explanitory but I will break them down for you. A Primary source is firsthand information about an event, for example our journals that we have all been writing. They are sources which have not been edited by a second party yet. Good News!

This is just a quick blog... So today I had a meeting with one of the companies I work for. It was really good, full of so much information and was lovely to see the team altogether as we don't get to do this often. One of my colleagues did a short presentation on 'Phonics' which was fantastic and has lead me to so many new ideas!  But that is not the best of it. Each year they select 4 members of staff to win teacher of the year, and I was one of them! I am so thrilled to be nominated! I nearly cried! It just goes to show, that the harder you work the more you get rewarded. I'm not sure if I'll win as I'm up against some great contenders, but just to be nominated makes me feel so proud!  So that's my good news of today!  Chow Chow
