Task 1D: 2d Image

So the final task of part 1 is here, and it is one that I must admit I struggled with! 

We were asked to create a profile on either Flickr or Instagram to share images of ourselves to go towards our portfolio.

Now I already have a personal Instagram account, of which I must admit I rarely update! I'm terrible as I always forget to take photos and the ones I do I never seem to get round to uploading! 

Therefore, I thought I would use a Flickr account for my professional profile. I also wanted to learn how Flickr works as I had never used it before, you know, delve into the unknown... 

I found Flickr quite easy to use, all you need to do is upload your images and publish them... If you have images! I'll be honest, I haven't had many professional photos taken of me for quite some time now, so I had to hunt down and find some images to put on my profile, and as I don't usually have many photo's taken of me it took me some time to get some photos together! Which then had me thinking, I should really have some more done soon, and I have booked a shoot with a friend who is a professional photographer and I will share that experience with you soon!

It is still very much a working progress so any comments/advice would definitely be appreciated! 

While doing my Flickr page, I wondered what the real difference was between Instagram and Flickr. I had a little research and found a lot of people are either a 'Flickr' person or an 'Instagram' person. People prefer different ones for different reasons. I found some reasons for either side of the argument...

Flickr users say:

• The resolution is better.
• The range of photo shapes and sizes.
• You can organise your photos and videos. 
• Safe Searching - more safety for their users (family friendly).

However Instagram users say:

• It's better for connecting with friends/businesses.
• Using hashtags (this enables you to link it with other social networking sites).
• It's a better platform for visual advertising.
• The ability to edit your photos.

Well I can now say that I do have the best of both worlds. After looking at the advantages of both I do believe I have chosen the right sites for the right purposes.
